There’s something grand about a wedding. When you’re a part of it, things become even more grandiose, especially when you realize that you are asked to make a speech. There’s something beautiful about being a part of the nuptials of two people that love each other. If you’re the cousin of the bride, you may be asked to say a speech. If that’s the case, then you may not be prepared. In fact, millions of people today are petrified about the idea of speaking in public, let alone give a speech to an audience of people they may or may not know. If you find yourself in this situation, take a deep breath, and don’t panic. You don’t have anything to worry about at all. In fact, this is going to be an easy thing to go through, if you just focus on a few key bullet points when constructing your speech.
The Introduction Is Always First
No matter where you’re going to give a speech, even if you’re at a wedding or you’re the president, you’re going to be introducing yourself. You want to introduce yourself briefly here, and make sure that people know who you are, and why you were asked to say a speech. If you’re close to the bride, then make sure that you say something to that aspect. Talk about how you know the bride, and what a joy it has been to be part of the family, etc.
Speaking of Love and Honor
Transition to speaking about love and marriage. Think about using quotes, or something that you find in a book, or even the Holy Bible. There’s a lot of things that you can talk about here, and the idea of love and marriage is going to be a great option to pursue. Remember, the wedding sparks joy in a lot of different people, and you can speak to that with relative ease. You’ll want to talk about the beauty and honor of marriage, and even quote things that are familiar, or at least familiar to you and your cousin. A little inside information never hurts. You can even tell a story about how much you have grown to love your cousin.
Wish The Bride and Groom Luck
As you transition from the mid-point of your speech, make sure that you wish the bride and groom luck. Seriously, wish them luck in their endeavors, and talk about how marriage is never easy, but it is worthwhile overall. Once you do this, you’ll be cleared to finish off your speech with an outro, or a simple toast.
The Ending
When you’ve said the things above, you’re ready to sit down or give a toast. Whatever the case may be, make sure that you focus on simply ending the speech with how grateful you are for being allowed to be a part of the wedding, and that’s it. Once you do that, you’ll be able to sit down, enjoy a cocktail, or just enjoy the rest of the ceremony play out.
